<![CDATA[Ffynnongroyw / Talacre Cyclepath + the Hills. - 19th Sep 2014]]>Fri, 19 Sep 2014 18:08:40 GMThttp://www.mtbgus.com/blog/ffynnongroyw-talacre-cyclepath-the-hills-19th-sep-2014Started the ride to have a look at the new cycle path, entering the path from the Tanlan end of Ffynnongroyw you first go through one of those gates which are meant to be cycle friendly but you always end up hitting and twisting your handlebars trying to get through them, the moment you get past this you have to tackle an uphill cattle grid, as I gingerly crossed the new shiny metal bars with it's rather large gaps the thoughts of "Accident waiting to happen" came to mind, coming back the other way towards the road is going to be tricky as people try to get their bikes through the gate while standing on the grid, also the path is a walkway, no way on this planet could I get my dog over the grid!

When on the first section of the path two things came to mind, the fine loose gravel surface isn't the best in the world, but being an off roader it doesn't really bother me that much, given time to bed in and it should hopefully get better, the big problem with this part of the path is that it's been fenced off from the field, BUT! there are 5 large gaps in the fence which have been left open on purpose, these give the cows in the field full access to the path and after the short time the path has been open a few parts are already a "Dodge the cow splats" on the path, not good at all, there's also bound to be times when the cows are blocking the way and refuse to move, another accident waiting to happen.

Once past this and onto the lane that leads to the old Point of Air Colliery, no work has been done on the lane under the railway bridge, this floods in bad weather and sometimes up over the pavement too, the path after this around the point of air is all tarmac and is in all fairness a good job, maybe within time viewpoints may be added like the rest of the coastline.

The rest of my route took me up to Gronant and over to Prestatyn, to Dyseth, Marian Mills, Gwaenysgor and back home.

<![CDATA[A wet and windy Clwyds - 18th August 2014]]>Mon, 18 Aug 2014 16:31:42 GMThttp://www.mtbgus.com/blog/a-wet-and-windy-clwyds-18th-august-2014Myself, Carl and Al decided to meet to meet up on the Clwyds after every single weather forecast gave a windy but nice and dry day, how wrong was that!

Cutting the ride short after the first downpour we decided to just get a few more miles in at a lower level to avoid the worst of the weather, it worked in the fact that we even managed to catch a few rays of sunshine for a couple of minutes on a climb.

The Clwyds were absolutely filthy wet and muddy, rivers of water flowing down every track.

<![CDATA[A right windy ride - 11th August 2014]]>Mon, 11 Aug 2014 19:19:30 GMThttp://www.mtbgus.com/blog/a-right-windy-ride-11th-august-2014A pretty hilly 46 mile route with 4900ft of nasty climbs from Ffynnongroyw to the peak of Penycloddiau and back home, wind was so strong on Pen it made descending a bit tricky at times being belted by it full force side on.

<![CDATA[Overgrown paths and prats in cars.]]>Fri, 08 Aug 2014 15:57:33 GMThttp://www.mtbgus.com/blog/overgrown-paths-and-prats-in-carsas the title says, nettle stings on steep loose climbs are never good and idiots who think they can overtake you in their cars on narrow lanes at speed and then the ones who dare not pass you when you're toddling along happily at 12mph enjoying the views on a lane that's wide enough to overtake you in a bloody tank! great ride though, just a shame about the prats.
