Llangollen Walk with Jake and Carl, beautiful afternoon for a walk starting and finishing at Trevor Rocks, walk down to Canal and along it to grab some pies and coffee in Llangollen and then make the trek back to Trevor Rocks via Castell Dinas Bran. Forgot my camera so these were taken on the Nexus 5 phone.
From brilliant sunshine to dark threatening clouds and brisk winds. I ventured out on my brand new and very clean bike for a local 26 mile loop up through the lanes and paths of Mostyn and over Halkyn Mountain, through Lixwm and Whitford and back down the different woods to home.
There were a few stops in the first few miles to adjust things like saddle height and stem, but mostly everything was spot on from the build up of the bike.
First time I've ridden a 29er and at first it felt very strange, though that feeling passed as I headed off road and rather than thinking about the ride difference I needed to concentrate on the trail, this is where I became one with the bike and it's sharp handling, after some of the stories I've heard about the slow steering of 29ers and the awkwardness on tight singletracks I can say it didn't feel like that, sure it felt different to my Focus HT 26er, but the handling was closer to that of my Cove Hustler (without the rear shock), I felt quite at home on it.
This thing flies, it's light and very fast, the 26 miles just flew by and on arriving back home I felt fresh, more like I'd gone for a 10 mile toddle on the bike with the dog.
My latest custom build. I built the bike so it will cope with the real mountains so while it's light that meant a few beefier components were needed here and there and also being a 29er a good set of tyres and strong wheels was called for.
