The Berwyns Epic - 31st August 2013
In one word - "EPIC!", A route taken at a steady pace with plenty of stops to refuel and to take in the vast stunning views on offer, at 7 hours and 54 minutes, 5400 feet of elevation and 32 miles, not a route to be taken lightly.
Starting the route from the centre of Llandrillo we went straight into the first climb of the day at some 4 miles long up to the summit of the Wayfarer track, the wind was blowing a bitter gale so after a brief stop we started the long 5.3 mile descent down into Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog where we had a bite to eat before heading over to the next village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, after another food stop and a visit to the local shop we started another long 4 mile climb followed by a bike / hike at the summit over a deep boggy moorland (complete with wet feet) before making an absolutely stunning long and steep singletrack descent into Llangynog.
Then it was the final 4 mile climb to Milltir Gerrig and the final 4 mile descent back to Llandrillo.
I’ll let the stunning photos from both myself and Carl tell you the whole tale of this amazing tough route.
